House of Nature Kamenjak: Discover Premantura’s Wild Side

The House of Nature Kamenjak is a small visitor centre in the middle of Premantura, southern Istria, Croatia. Designed as “Kamenjak in miniature”, it has four aquariums, exhibits on the cape’s plants, insects and geology, and an interactive 3D dinosaur animation. It is open daily from 17:00 to 22:00 in July and August [ulaz: besplatan / cijena] and is closed outside the summer season.

Cape Kamenjak is famous for its secluded beaches, rocky coves and untamed scenery. Before you set out to explore the protected landscape, there is another attraction worth discovering in the heart of Premantura.

Kamenjak in miniature

The centre presents the natural, geological, cultural and historical heritage of the southernmost part of the Istrian peninsula. You can learn about the traditions of Premantura, understand why Kamenjak’s grasslands matter, see photographs of the wild orchids that grow across the protected landscape, and explore an entomological collection of the insects living in its Mediterranean meadows.

Meet the creatures of Kamenjak

Four aquariums show species from the waters around Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago, marine life that is hard to spot while swimming or snorkelling. Children can solve marine-organism puzzles, and braver visitors can try to identify creatures by the texture of their bodies.

One of the most memorable exhibits is an interactive 3D animation that lets families walk with the dinosaurs, and you can also find out who the only living descendants of the ancient dinosaurs are.

Is it a good stop for families?

Yes. The hands-on activities, aquariums and dinosaur animation make it popular with children, and the evening hours are convenient after a day at the beach. It is also a useful stop on a hot or rainy day, when a beach visit is less appealing.

Plan your visit

The centre is on the ground floor of the Kamenjak Public Institution building in central Premantura, an easy addition to a day of swimming, cycling or exploring Kamenjak’s coves. As a first-time visit, it works best before you enter the protected landscape, because the exhibits make what you see outdoors far more meaningful. Opening hours can change, so check https://kamenjak.hr/en or call before going.
